2008 Spring Shakedown Regatta

Invitation
Fleet 10 and the GRYC invite you to attend the 2008 Spring Shakedown on May 17-18, held on Reeds Lake in downtown East Grand Rapids. You will meet and compete with some of the best MC scow sailors in the Nation. 10 trophies to be awarded. Come enjoy West Michigan scow sailor's hospitality, including free beer all weekend. We offer a regatta you will not regret attending.

Rules
The races will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

Entries and Eligibility
This regatta is open to all MC scow sailors. All participants and yachts must comply with the MC Rules and class scantlings prior to the preparatory signal of the first scheduled race. There is no limitation of crew weight for the MC.

Sailing Instructions
Sailing Instructions will be distributed to qualified entrants at registration.

Scoring System
USSA Appendix A using the Low-Point scoring system with no throw-outs. This changes RRS A2.


Trophies
10 Trophies to be awarded:

  • Top 5 finishers (minimum)
  • Top Master, Woman, Junior, Grand Master, and Mega Master as reflecting registration.
Online Registration
Benefits of registering online:
  • $5 discount for MCSA members in good standing,
  • '10 second' registration process on site if you have your check made out and have no changes,
  • Helps us plan a better event for your enjoyment!
Boat registration is only $40 ($35 for current MCSA members who register online) and includes breakfast Saturday and Sunday, Saturday's after race party, beer all weekend, great sailing, lots of fun and beautiful trophies. Lunches available Saturday and Sunday for $5 each.
Facilities
Here are a few specifics about Grand Rapids Yacht Club (GRYC):
  • Registration will be at the GRYC clubhouse.
  • Payment: Check or cash. No credit cards accepted.
  • The event will be dry-sailed -- at the end of the day you will pull your boat out and leave it on your trailer in the large parking lot at the club. GRYC members will help organize launching and retrieving boats.
  • Boat Launching: there are two concrete ramps with electric winches. Two wheel trailer movers make launching easier.
  • Trailer storage: trailers will remain on site in the parking lot
  • Motorhomes are permitted on GRYC grounds on a first come first serve basis and as space permits, but no hook-ups are available. Showers and restrooms open at all times.
  • No pets allowed.
