2002 Die Hard Regatta Results September 14 - 15, 2002 (Results and narrative submitted by Tran Alfrey on September 25, 2002)
After lunch the wind shifted to the Northwest and we sailed to the South end of the lake in a 5-8mph breeze to begin the second race. However, just before the start, the front came through and the winds increased to 20+mph which caught most of us by surprise and alone. Bill Colburn and Paul Keppel who managed to pick-up a crew just in time finished one and two. Noel Neuman somehow managed to hold on by himself for a third and Dave Mott (with a 200 pounder he met 10 minutes before the start swimming in the lake) came in fourth. The 3rd race of the day had almost everyone with a crew as the wind continued at 15-20mph. Bill Colburn led the way and Dave Mott with his now “experienced” crew finished a close second. Susan and Bill Kirkpatrick again hosted the Saturday night party as we all enjoyed fine Italian cuisine and recalled the day’s excitement. Sunday morning arrived with very light and variable winds. We all decided to call it day at 10:30 and award the trophies.
