2001 Payton Memorial Regatta Results June 23 - 24, 2001 (Results and narrative submitted by Ray Riddle on June 25, 2001)
Soon to be named MC fleet 69 of Mendota Yacht Club (MYC), in Madison, WI,
welcomed MC scows to their annual Payton Memorial regatta held on June
23-24. Named in honor of longtime MYC member and former Mallory Cup
winner, Jim Payton, this 4 race weekend regatta features the classes sailed
by MYC; A scows, E scows, I-20 scows, M-20 scows, Cruisers, and now MC
scows.
Over 40 boats sailed, with 4 being MC scows. Unfortunately, Saturday was
greeted with little wind, so the highlight of the day was the famous MYC
pig roast (this year including ample napkins). Sunday, 2 races were
completed with winds of 7-20 mph, moderate chop and 1 capsized A scow.
Kevin Neal of Lake Geneva Yacht Club conquered the challenging conditions,
winning won both races, while Ray Riddle and Doug Kolner, both of MYC,
swapped seconds and thirds. It should be noted that, Ray, in a unique
showing of sailing prowess, was in first place at every mark in the
regatta, except the ones that counted. The results are listed below.
Next year the MYC MC scow fleet (5 boats and growing) hopes more will join
us in this annual and entertaining mid-June regatta.
