John P. Hans - Nov. 29, 1934 - March 6, 2010

John P. Hans of Edwardsburg, MI, passed away in South Bend, IN. He is survived by his wife Sherry Ann Ponto and two children, John William Hans and Susan Ann Stewart.

John was a lifelong member of MC Fleet #19 (Eagle Lake YC) and enjoyed competitive sailing in five different classes of boats. John won the National Championship in the National One design boat and bought his first MC (#249) in 1975. The MC was his favorite design and he owned a total of nine of them throughout his sailing career. John was a wonderful sailor, friend, and mentor to his son and enjoyed working the committee boat for Fleet #28 (Diamond Lake YC) during the past few years. He was a very special man who will be greatly missed.

John and his wife, Sherry, owned and operated Hans House for 49 years and then Hans Country Café in Edwardsburg for three years before retiring. John served on the board of the Indiana Restaurant Association for many years and was an avid golfer who recently received a hole-in-one plaque from Rayburn Golf Course in Bristol, IN. He was an accomplished bowler and a proud Army veteran serving with the 2nd Pit Company B-128th, 6th Army Division, Fort Leonard Wood, MO.
