(Report by Mark Long - results submitted by Gunter Stein on Sep 17, 2007)
21 boats registered for this years Doug Sydor Regatta. This event is held every year in mid September at Arrowhead yacht club, Lake Winnebago, Missouri. We had teams registered from Missouri, Iowa, and Nebraska. We always appreciate the support form our dear friends at Lake Lotawana as they brought several boats again this year. We have a 400 acre lake just south of Kansas City. Our Regatta headquarters is the beautiful Arrowhead Yacht Club. We start the event on Friday night with a buffet dinner and a live band. A keg is always flowing. PRO was Howard Chamberlain with help from Greg Long and Dean Martin. They did an excellent job all weekend. Saturday brought challenging winds SSE at 3 to 8 mph. The morning race was tough. Pat Flood managed to slip away and win this and begin his dominant performance of the weekend. We stopped for a lunch break at AYC and went out after lunch to winds that were a bit higher. 3 short courses after lunch with Pat Flood from Okoboji in the lead at the end of the day. He was chased by Larry Jensen from Okoboji and Jeff Serles of Lotawana. At the end of the first day of racing, we have a traditional Beer and Ribs gathering at the yacht club point. KC has a tradition of Barbeque and we like to share plenty of smoked ribs after racing with a keg of beer. Day 2 brought a nice SSE breeze 10-15 mph. We had a nice long beat as this is a perfect wind direction for this small lake. Sailing on Winnebago is perfect when the breeze is up as there are never any waves to deal with. This was a great day of racing Pat flood won race #5 and Larry Jensen won race #6. Thanks to all of our guest for joining us to make this another wonderful event. We hope to see you all again next year. Thanks to regatta Chairman, Dave Brown for organizing the event and to our Fleet Commodore Aimee Long for making everything happen. Mark Long
