Lake Eustis: Light wind and no wind was the situation for the MC Scow Southeastern Regional Sailing Championships held by the Lake Eustis Sailing Club during the weekend of Dec. 9, 2000. Three races were sailed on Saturday, Dec. 9 with winds being variable between 4 and 8 mph with 21 boats competing. However, the second day saw the winds go away and racing was canceled so the Eustis Chamber of Commerce Trophy for the overall title along with four divisional trophies and ten top finish silver platters were given on the first day of racing.

Ted Keller of Powell, Ohio claimed the title without claiming a first place finish but by making high consistent finishes of two seconds and a fourth for a total of eight points. Close behind him were Lenny Krawcheck of Charleston, South Carolina and Louis Conger of Bossier City, Louisiana with 11 points each. Krawcheck went 1, 3, and 7 on Saturday while Conger went 4, 6, and 1.

Jeff Anis of Augusta, Georgia was knotted in fourth place with Mike Kelly of Oxford, Maryland with 12 points. Anis sailed to finishes of sixth, first, and fifth while Kelly earned descending places of fifth, fourth, and third.

Division titles were presented to Bob DeWitt, commodore of the Lake Eustis Sailing Club and resident of University Park, Florida in the Mega Master Division (70 and older) with 52 points, to William Freytag of Fontana, Wisconsin in the Grand Master Division (60 and older) with 23 points, to Krawcheck in the Master Division (50 and older), and to Candi Robb of Mt. Dora, Florida as the top woman sailor with 58 points.

The other sailors in the top 10 were Stan Stanton of Augusta, Georgia in sixth with 18 points, Freytag in seventh, Bill Rembold of Wadmaiaw, South Carolina in eighth with 25 points, Jim Hoffman of Naples, Florida in ninth with 28 points, and Devin Farley of Fontana, Wisconsin and DeLand, Florida in tenth place with 36 points.

The Lake Eustis Sailing Club will be holding three more regattas this sailing season including the 29th annual MC Scow Midwinter National Championships Mar. 9 -11, 2001. They will also host the 2nd annual International Wayfarer Midwinter Championships Feb. 9 - 11, 2001, and the 31st annual George Washington's Birthday Open One-Design Regatta Feb. 17-18, 2001.
