Darin Andrew Newman, age 37 of Minneapolis, MN, passed away in his home on Saturday, October 25th due to a cardiac episode. He departed the world leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness and unwavering support for his family.
Darin was born July 6th, 1988, in Marshfield, Wisconsin, son of Doug and Terra Newman. He graduated from Colby High School in May of 2006. He attended UW-Madison and graduated in 2010 with his bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture. Darin was a member of the UW Marching Band all four years at UW-Madison. Following graduation, he moved to Minneapolis, MN where he attended the University of Minnesota and achieved his master’s degree. Darin worked for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Beyond his professional achievements, Darin enjoyed hiking, sailing and being outdoors. Darin was a member of the Lake Harriet Yacht Club (LHYC) where he met his wife and best friend, Kara. Together they enjoyed walking their dog, Birdie, playing Wingspan, and sailing. They have attended regattas throughout the Midwest and competed in numerous sailing races. Darin also enjoyed listening to music and attending concerts with his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his wife Kara Newman, parents Doug and Terra Newman, sister Dana (Eric) Anderson, brother Dan (Rachel) Newman, nieces Calley Watt and Avery Newman, nephews Jacob and Eli Newman, Grandparents Donald and Dorene Newman, Dave and Jan Calley, Mother-in-law Lynette Dobler and her partner Tom Van Dorp, Father-in-law Steve (Ginger) Fancy, and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 8th in Colby at the VFW, 104 North Division Street, Colby WI 54421 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
A celebration of life will also be held in Minneapolis on Sunday, November 16th at First Universalist Church of Minneapolis, 3400 Dupont Avenue South Minneapolis, MN 55408 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A service will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
